Knowing your holiday entitlement rights

All workers have a right to a minimum of 5.6 weeks paid annual leave, but your employer may offer more.

Your holiday entitlement will depend on your employer, but the exact number of days can also be dependent on your working hours or working pattern.

Employers may run an 'accrual system' for holiday entitlement. Otherwise they will have a leave or holiday year which sets out the period in which you should take your leave.

Some Employers also offer flexi time, this allows employees to build up extra holiday entitlement by spending more hours at work.

Once you have calculated your holiday entitlement you will need to make sure you give your employer the right notice. Some contracts may set out when some of your holiday should be taken. Your employer should make sure they pay you correctly for your holiday.
