Perhaps you have developed a medical condition that makes driving unsafe and your doctor tells you to stop driving immediately. If this is the case you should surrender your driving licence to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). Your doctor will advise you when you are well enough to start driving again. By surrendering your licence you remove the need for the DVLA to make formal medical enquiries into your fitness to drive. If medical enquiries confirm you cannot meet the required medical standards of fitness to drive, your licence will have to be revoked. There is increasing concern about the impact of changes to come in the legal world during the course of 2012. There is a serious prospect that fewer and fewer people will be able to instruct a lawyer to represent them in court proceedings. There are 3 major drivers behind this shift in access to justice.

Employment Tribunals hear cases involving employment disputes which have not been resolved by other means. While an Employment Tribunal hearing is less formal than a court hearing, the decisions made by Employment Tribunals are legally binding and must be followed. The person that you are in dispute with may not necessarily be your employer. It could be your trade union or a professional body that you belong to. You give evidence under an oath or affirmation, and if you lie you can be convicted of perjury.

Dear [Client] A decision in the Court of Appeal provides a warning to landlords that have multiple residential properties on their books. The court held that a letter sent in error by a landlord's employee constituted a notice, the effect of which was to convert the tenant's assured shorthold tenancy (AST) into an assured tenancy. In this particular case, the tenant had been granted an AST for a probationary period of one year. The AST stated that if the tenant successfully completed the probationary period, the AST would be converted to an assured tenancy. The tenant breached the AST and the landlord sought possession of the property before the end of the probationary period.

Ok, ok, let’s not get carried away. There are still some dark economic storm clouds on the horizon, not least the disfunctioning Eurozone, but there are one or two headlines appearing in the press which buck the trend for unmitigated gloom. Maybe, just maybe, they suggest that green shoots might finally be emerging from the “Long Slump” in time for spring. So, with 2012 being Olympic Year and with Team GB looking good for a serious medal haul, many of them gold, and with the Queen’s Golden Jubilee celebrations on the horizon, maybe now is the time for optimism at last! Anyway, here’s a few of those headlines to spread some New Year cheer. Happy New Year from all at Click Law 24.com

It has been said that the rule of law is the first casualty of war, but it also gets a bit of a battering even in times of (relative) peace. So, at this traditional time of peace and goodwill , it seems apt to take a whistlestop tour to see how the rule of law is doing. Unfortunately, we don’t have to go to far-flung banana republics to see examples of where the Rule of Law is coming under , sometimes extreme, pressure. We can get a good glimpse much closer to home in the so-called “civilised” West. Our first stop on this tour will be:

You remember that arcade game where you whacked crocodiles with a mallet? No matter what you did another would pop up – it was as frustrating as it was futile.
I imagine running a small law firm must be similarly exasperating right now. The likes of QualitySolicitors lurk round every corner, ready to envelop firms with their garish branding. Supermarket giants, breakdown cover firms and old people’s holiday fixers wait in the wings, poised for the ABS starting gun to fire them into a sprint for a good spot to pitch their tent in the legal market.
